Our UK facilities have undergone a major upgrade with the installation of a new fume hood and advanced chemical processing equipment. The new facilities have been funded by BEIS through collaboration with the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) as part of the Advanced Fuel Cycle Programme (AFCP). We are rapidly developing Synroc technology for future wastes arising from the recycling of used nuclear fuel. GRI are now producing kg-scales of Synroc precursors and processing highly acidic slurries associated with recycling waste. These are the first steps in GRI’s ambitious goals to scale up Synroc to TRL7 by 2030. To read more about AFCP, see afcp.nnl.co.uk. AFCP is part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) £505m Energy Innovation Programme.
